Netflix has given the green light to an enthralling limited series, headlined by the mesmerizing Rachel Weisz, which draws its inspiration from Julia May Jonas' captivating novel, "Vladimir." This narrative delves into the escalating obsession of a woman towards a colleague. Jonas, a talented playwright and author, doubles as a scriptwriter and executive producer for the series. Kate Robin, renowned for her work on "Six Feet Under" and "The Affair," will take the helm as showrunner, while Sharon Horgan, through her Merman banner, and Jason Winer, via his Small Dog Picture Company, join the executive producer credits alongside her. The production is under the wing of 20th Television.
The synopsis of "Vladimir" paints a vivid picture: "As a woman's life (portrayed by Weisz) begins to unravel, she finds herself ensnared by an infatuation with her enigmatic new colleague. Brimming with steamy secrets, dark humor, and multifaceted characters, 'Vladimir' explores the lengths to which a woman will go to turn her fantasies into flesh-and-blood reality."
"With Kate Robin's mastery in crafting intricate, darkly comic tales centered around women, a script that skillfully dissects the intricacies of attraction and moral gray areas, and Rachel Weisz at the helm, this project stands as a formidable collaboration of exceptional women," enthused Tracey Pakosta, Vice President of Comedy Series at Netflix. "We eagerly anticipate our fans becoming just as enthralled by 'Vladimir' as we are."
Horgan added, "Julia's writing ensnared my heart from the very first paragraph. I feel incredibly fortunate and thrilled to bring 'Vladimir' to life with Small Dog, under the Merman banner. Collaborating with Netflix and having Rachel on board is a thrilling testament to the brilliance of the scripts."
Robin and Jonas executive produce alongside Weisz, as well as Horgan, Stacy Greenberg, and Kira Carstensen from Merman, and Winer and Jon Radler from Small Dog Picture Company.
Weisz's recent credits include the Prime Video series "Dead Ringers," Marvel's "Black Widow," and "The Favourite," the latter earning her an Oscar nomination (she previously won an Academy Award in 2006 for "The Constant Gardener"). She is represented by CAA, Linden Entertainment, Independent Talent, and Hirsch Wallerstein.
