Reese Witherspoon has finally addressed the backlash that ensued after she shared her stance on artificial intelligence. On April 16, the 50-year-old actress posted a video on social media, urging women to delve deeper into the realm of AI. Her caption on Instagram read, "The AI revolution has commenced, and I'm eager to learn everything I can about it and share it with all of you." However, her remarks were met with criticism from some followers.
In a subsequent post on her Instagram Stories on Monday, Reese addressed the critiques, writing, "Well, I guess my AI post got people talking. Just to be clear, no one is paying me to speak about this. I'm simply a curious human being." The mother of three noted that her children are learning about AI tools and that she knows many founders who are involved in coding. She also mentioned hearing about AI being used in every sector of business.
Reese emphasized that she is "aware of the potential impact this could have on jobs across numerous industries. I understand environmental concerns. I'm deeply concerned about local communities. And I have apprehensions about the impending advent of AGI [Artificial General Intelligence]."
She added, "I don't believe computers should replace humanity," and encouraged her fans to learn "as much as possible about this technological revolution."
