Just hours before their tragic deaths were discovered in their Los Angeles home, Nick Reiner had already made waves at a holiday party hosted by his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, and comedian Conan O’Brien. According to two eyewitnesses, the 32-year-old had disrupted the festivities with his disruptive behavior, leaving other guests uneasy and his parents upset and embarrassed. They had expressed their concerns about his health, though the reasons for his erratic conduct remained unclear.

The family’s struggles with Nick, particularly his battles with drug addiction, were well-known in Hollywood, where they were beloved for their kindness and generosity. Nick had been living on and off at their Brentwood home, according to a source.

The evening’s events took a tragic turn when the three Reiners were found deceased in their residence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths while holding Nick Reiner without bail on suspicion of murder.

Nick, one of four siblings, had been vocal about his experiences with rehab and addiction treatment, starting at the age of 15. In 2015, he and his father teamed up for the film “Being Charlie,” which Rob directed and Nick co-wrote. The drama, inspired by Nick’s experiences, follows the addicted son of a would-be governor who “goes down the long, rough road of rehab, fighting against recovery every inch of the way,” according to its IMDb description.

Rob Reiner, in an appearance on NBC’s “TODAY” show on May 4th, 2016, shared his insight into the making of the film: “[W]hat I didn’t understand was the depth of what he was going through. And the process of making this film not only forced me to see what he was experiencing, but it forced him to see what I went through and what his mother went through, and hopefully the film was a reflection of that.”
