Robin Wright's recent collaboration with Tom Hanks was a stark contrast to their previous time on set together! During the promotion of their new film "Here" on "Today" on October 28th, Monday, the 58-year-old actress revealed that during their last project, "Forrest Gump," 30 years ago, she barely had the chance to bond with her co-star Hanks, 68, as he was constantly "on the run."
"We were constantly racing to shoot that movie, and during every lunch break, Tom was out jogging," Wright reminisced about her time on the 1994 film's set. "He was just running everywhere they could catch him. So, we didn't really get to spend much time together."
However, the actress added that whenever their schedules aligned on set, they had "the absolute best time."
In "Forrest Gump," Wright and Hanks portrayed childhood friends who eventually tied the knot. Hanks' titular character was renowned for his speed and ended up running across the country for three years in the film. During her interview on "Today," Wright shared that working together on "Here" after 30 years allowed them to "hang out" more on set and "get to know each other as adults."
While filming "Here," the actors were also reunited with the film's director, Robert Zemeckis, who had also helmed "Forrest Gump." "It was like getting the band back together, literally," Wright exclaimed.
"Here" narrates the tale of "multiple families and a unique place they inhabit. The story spans generations, capturing the most relatable human experiences," according to its synopsis. The film employs AI technology to depict Wright and Hanks at various ages as the plot unfolds.
Speaking of her experience making the film, Wright said, "I'd do anything with Bob and Tom. So, when he called and said, 'I don't know if it's gonna work, it's never been done before,' we all just said, 'Let's make it happen!'"
At the movie's world premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles on October 25th, Hanks shared that he and Wright "picked up right where we left off" on set. "I'd say we love each other because we're so comfortable with each other," Hanks stated. "It was a real luxury to be able to walk in and have the same conversations we've been having for the last 30 years, after a moment of, 'Hey, this crazy look, do you believe this? Can you believe this? Look at this, look at this!'"
