The lead vocalist of the rock band Life of Agony, Mina Caputo, at 50 years old, has made a profound decision to revert to living as a male after more than a decade of publicly embracing his transgender identity. In a heartfelt revelation, Caputo announced that his gender dysphoria, a condition that once troubled him deeply, has been alleviated, and he has embarked on the journey of detransitioning.
"Surgery is scheduled to remove my artificial breasts, and I will embrace my authentic male self with all my heart," Caputo disclosed in an Instagram video, as reported by Daily Mail. "I have conquered my gender dysphoria. It has taken countless years, and many trials by fire, but I have surpassed the misunderstandings about my soul and spirit."
Born Keith in December 1973, Caputo began identifying himself as Mina in 2008 and publicly came out as transgender in 2011. His announcement was prompted by the comments from his followers, who had started remarking on his appearance, suggesting that he looked more like a man.
"I'm sharing this video because many people are throwing shade at me, saying I look ugly and resemble a man," Caputo confided. "But honey lamb, the truth is, I am a man, and I have always been a man. You're just not accustomed to hearing people speak authentically about their identities. You're more familiar with lies about people's genders," he continued.
Caputo informed his followers that he had stopped taking hormones several years ago and that his detransition process would be finalized next year. "Indeed, I've been off hormones for six or seven years now. In January 2025, my surgery to remove my artificial breasts is scheduled, and I will embrace my divine male self with all my love," the singer declared.
As the band's frontman, Caputo expressed immense pride in himself. "I've been through so much over the years. I wouldn't wish gender dysphoria on my worst enemy. It's been one of the most agonizing experiences of my life, and I'm incredibly relieved that it's finally coming to an end," he said.
Alan Robert, the bassist and co-founder of Life of Agony, showed his unwavering support for Caputo's transition in the comment section. "I'm proud of your journey and your raw honesty," Robert wrote. "I'm always here for you, no matter what. We may not be blood-related, but we are a real family."
Detransitioning refers to the process of halting or reversing a gender transition, encompassing social, medical, surgical, or legal changes. Life of Agony, an American alternative metal band from Brooklyn formed in 1989, is renowned for albums such as "A Place Where There's No More Pain" (2017) and "The Sound of Scars" (2019).
