Two days after fans sparked rumors of a rift between her and her former "I Know What You Did Last Summer" co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt, fueled by their absence from shared red carpet snapshots at the horror sequel's July 14 premiere, Scooby-Doo veteran Sarah Michelle Gellar addressed the gossip. On July 16, beneath an Instagram post recapping the movie's grand opening, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star clarified in the comments, "For all those inquiring – I unfortunately missed crossing paths with @jenniferlovehewitt, who shines brightly in the film. I was indoors, nestled with my children, when the red carpet festivities unfolded. And regrettably, JLH couldn't make it to the after-party either."
Gellar, who co-starred in the original 1997 film alongside her spouse Freddie Prinze Jr., with whom she parents Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, further noted that Hewitt wasn't the only cast member she failed to snap a picture with. "If you've ever attended one of these events, you'd know it's utter chaos," she continued. "Sadly, I missed capturing moments with most of the cast. But that in no way diminishes my immense admiration for them all. Sometimes, genuine interactions happen solely in real life, not online."
While Gellar sought to squash talk of a split, this isn't the first time she or Hewitt have had to tackle such speculation head-on. In fact, Hewitt, known for her role in "9-1-1," recently debunked rumors suggesting she had influenced the decision to exclude Gellar – whose character meets a fatal end in the first "IKWYDLS" film – from the sequel. "I was just 18 then. I wasn't taking script notes," Hewitt revealed during a December episode of the "I’ve Never Said This Before" podcast. "We were all in it together, navigating our way through the experience. And I'm all for her and Freddie. Honestly, I think it's the sweetest thing ever that they've been married for what feels like a century and have kids. It's adorable. So, it's been quite amusing to witness all this chatter."
