The official synopsis captivates the imagination: "Ish (Ludwig), a brilliant but reclusive young geologist living a semi-isolated existence, awakens from a coma to discover that he is the sole survivor of a cataclysmic plague. The world has been ravaged by an unprecedented virulence, leaving only scattered remnants of humanity. In this new reality, where rules no longer apply, Ish embarks on a journey to decipher the fine line between sanctuary and survival, and to embrace the possibility of love if he hopes to find meaning in his life amidst the ruins of civilization."

Notably, Stephen King has cited "Earth Abides" as one of the inspirations for his renowned novel, "The Stand." Todd Komarnicki expresses his excitement about adapting such a groundbreaking sci-fi work, emphasizing that the themes explored by George Stewart 75 years ago resonate profoundly with the world we inhabit today. He remarks, "Despite the chaos and division that greet us daily in the news, the truth remains that the path forward for society lies in unity, compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and grace."

Michael Wright, the head of MGM+, adds, "It's a privilege to reintroduce 'Earth Abides' to fans of George Stewart's groundbreaking science fiction work, as well as to a new generation. The story's messages of humanity, hope, and compassion are as timely and relevant today as they were nearly a century ago."

Production for "Earth Abides" is set to commence in Vancouver on April 8, with a premiere expected later this year. The series is a production of MGM+ Studios, with Kearie Peak, Michael Phillips of Lighthouse Productions, and Juliana Maio serving as executive producers.
