The German rock icons, Scorpions, have been compelled to axe three concerts on their South American leg of the momentous 60th Anniversary Tour, following the diagnosis of their lead singer, Klaus Meine, with dual health ailments. Initially, the band announced the cancellation of their performance at Tecnopolis in Buenos Aires, which was swiftly followed by another at the Masters of Rock festival in Bogotá, Colombia. Now, a third show, scheduled at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador, has also been called off.
"It is with heavy hearts that Scorpions must inform our beloved fans that we will be unable to grace the stage in Quito tonight, May 3rd," lamented the band. "Klaus is still battling the virus that necessitated the cancellation of our recent shows in Buenos Aires and Bogota. To add insult to injury, he has also been diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis, rendering him unable to sing. This is indeed an unfortunate turn of events."
The band extends their heartfelt apologies to their dedicated fans in Ecuador, expressing their profound disappointment at not being able to perform in one of their most cherished countries. "We promise to make every conceivable effort to return to Ecuador and South America in the future," they vowed.
Meine's health crisis marks yet another setback for the band, who had earlier postponed their upcoming Las Vegas residency in January to allow Mikkey Dee to recuperate from sepsis that arose after he sprained his foot. Last September, the band was also compelled to cancel a series of shows when guitarist Matthias Jabs suffered a fall at home, breaking a finger and a heel.
As of now, Scorpions have two concerts left on their current tour leg. The first is scheduled for tomorrow, May 6th, at the Feria Nacional de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and the second will take place this Thursday at the Feria de Puebla in Puebla, Mexico.
