On Friday, rapper Sean Kingston, alias Kisean Anderson, and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted of all counts of wire fraud during their trial. The federal allegations against them entailed a whopping $1 million worth of fraudulent activities conducted over wires. Turner and Kingston stood accused of a single conspiracy charge and five counts of wire fraud, all tied to an elaborate scheme aimed at "swindling sellers of exquisite, specialized vehicles, jewelry, and other luxury items."
Prosecutors labeled Kingston and Turner as "consummate deceivers and fraudsters," as per CBS. After a jury deliberation spanning approximately three hours, Turner was promptly apprehended, her criminal past weighing heavily against her. Meanwhile, Kingston was placed under house arrest pending his sentencing, with his sister reportedly posting a $200,000 bail to secure his temporary freedom.
Kingston, renowned for smash hits such as "Beautiful Girls," "Take You There," and his collaboration on Justin Bieber's "Eenie Meenie," found himself in legal trouble in May when a SWAT team raided his Florida residence in Southwest Ranches. His mother was similarly detained. Prior to the raid, Kingston reassured his followers via Instagram Story, stating, "People thrive on negativity! I'm fine, and so is my mom!... My legal team is addressing everything as we speak."
During the trial, CBS highlighted a pivotal piece of evidence: a text message from Kingston to his mother, which read, "I told you to create a fake receipt," followed by, "so it appears the transfer will be processed within a couple of days."
Kingston and Turner's sentencing hearing is set for July 11, where both face the possibility of spending two decades behind bars.
