SZA is not one to spill the beans on her romantic escapades, particularly when her lover is none other than Drake! Although the "Kill Bill" crooner famously romanced the rapper over a decade ago, she remains tight-lipped about his kissing prowess, despite her co-star Keke Palmer's relentless probing.
SZA, Palmer, and Issa Rae, who have all lent their talents to the new buddy comedy "One of Them Days," recently graced an episode of "Hot Ones Versus." A game of Truth or Death Wing quickly heated up, adding a spicy twist to their friendly banter.
Palmer, 31, grilled SZA, 35, about her romance with the "God's Plan" hitmaker, inquisitively asking if he was a good kisser. It was evident from the get-go that the Grammy Award winner was less than enthused about answering, quipping to Palmer, "That's why I warned you in advance."
Palmer burst into manic laughter as she and Rae exchanged jokes, leaving SZA to sit in her discomfort, fully aware that she would soon be compelled to chomp on the fiery wing. "I don't want to, it hurts!" she exclaimed. "We were just kids! We were mere children back in 2009."
At this juncture, Palmer pressed her, stating that it was a "simple yes or no" question. Rae echoed this sentiment, adding that the query was "incredibly straightforward" and that SZA's reluctance to answer spoke volumes. "You're trying to gang up on me and make me feel guilty because you know it affects me? Forget about it," SZA responded before finally taking a tiny nibble of the spicy wing and opting to remain tight-lipped about the matter.
SZA and Drake's history dates back to 2009 when they were an item. Drake first referenced the star in his 2020 song "Mr. Right Now," where he rapped about a girl he was dating who wanted to play SZA's music during an intimate moment. Days later, SZA clarified on X that they had indeed dated but in 2009, a year after Drake mentioned in his song.
"So, it was actually 2009, lol. In this case, a year of poetic rap license mattered, lol. I think he just innocently rhymed '08' with 'wait,'" she wrote. "Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm... it's all love, all peace. I just didn't want anyone thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. It was completely innocent. Lifetimes ago."
In December 2022, SZA elaborated on her feelings towards Drake in an interview with Audacy, stating that they were "cool" and had "always been cool." "It's never been weird. It didn't come completely out of the blue when he let me know," she said of her inclusion in "Mr. Right Now." "I didn't know it was a song with 21 [Savage] or anything like that. But anytime he's ever mentioned me, it's always been positive. He's never said anything negative about me. I'm grateful for that. I think highly of him... He's King Drake."
The duo eventually collaborated on their own track called "Slime You Out" in September 2023, and she received another shoutout on his diss track "Push Ups" in April, where Drake rapped that SZA, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage had all surpassed Kendrick Lamar as artists.
