Selena Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, is reportedly reeling from a choice the singer-actress made regarding her wedding to Benny Blanco. An insider shared with the Daily Mail about the Disney Channel star's Saturday nuptials, "Selena’s mother and stepfather, Brian, were utterly devastated that she didn’t select her mother to escort her down the aisle. In a surprising twist, she opted for her grandfather, David [Cornett], to fulfill that cherished role and hand her over to Benny."
The source continued, "David and his wife, Debbie, were overcome with emotion, shedding tears of happiness when Selena approached them with the request. Selena made up her mind the moment wedding planning commenced."
Representatives for both Teefey and Gomez did not promptly respond to Page Six's inquiries regarding the purported oversight.
On her special day, Gomez, 33, tied the knot with music producer Blanco, 37, in a glittering ceremony at a private estate in Santa Barbara, California, graced by the presence of Taylor Swift and other celebrities.
The night before, family and friends convened for a rehearsal dinner at a Hope Ranch estate in Goleta Valley, California. The "Only Murders in the Building" actress's co-stars, Martin Short, Paul Rudd, and Steve Martin, were photographed departing their hotel for the semi-formal gathering in stylish attire.
Gomez and Blanco's wedding, which has been kept under tight wraps, is said to span an entire weekend of festivities. Guests, with the notable exception of Swift, who a source informed Page Six will be residing in a private rental home for security reasons, are booked at the opulent El Encanto hotel in Montecito.
"All attendees will be chauffeured to the venue without any prior knowledge of their destination," an insider revealed to the Sun earlier this month. "Despite the element of surprise, everyone is buzzing with excitement, knowing it will be an unforgettable experience."
Gomez's closest friend, Swift, set the tone for the eagerly awaited weekend by arriving discreetly under a canopy of black umbrellas at a Santa Barbara airport on Friday afternoon, carrying a white box in hand.
Teefey, 49, is widely recognized for her unwavering support and sacrifices in nurturing Gomez's acting and singing career. She gave birth to the Rare Beauty founder at the tender age of 16 and raised her as a single mother.
Despite the alleged snub, Gomez and Blanco acknowledged in a joint interview earlier this year that Teefey played a pivotal role in fostering their romance with her new husband.
"It was actually quite a puzzle to pin down. I was around 16 or 17," the chart-topping artist revealed to Interview Magazine in February, recalling the age she had first met Blanco. Blanco chimed in, adding, "Our first collaborative music dropped around 2013, I think. Her mom arranged a get-together between the two of us. That was right around the time I was starting to hit it big, and she hadn't stepped into the singing spotlight yet."
The pair remained close "buddies" for a while before their friendship blossomed into something deeper after Blanco attended the hitmaker's 31st birthday bash in 2023. In December 2024, Gomez took to Instagram to share the joyous news of her upcoming nuptials with the musician, posting a heartfelt caption alongside a carousel of photos that flaunted a dazzling, massive marquise-cut diamond ring. "Forever begins now," she wrote, encapsulating the magic of the moment.
