Selena Gomez's family is brimming with a love that extends far beyond the ordinary. In fact, her mother, Mandy Teefey, was over the moon to witness the singer tie the knot with Benny Blanco in Santa Barbara, California, on September 27th. "What a perfect celebration for the most badass couple I know!" she effused on Instagram the following day, September 28th. "The evening couldn't have been more stunningly beautiful and flawless!"
Mandy, aged 49, was particularly moved by whom the "Only Murders in the Building" actress chose to walk her down the aisle at the wedding. Revealing that it was neither Selena's father, Ricardo Gomez, nor her stepfather, Brian Teefey, but rather her grandfather, David Cornett. "It was beyond heartwarming," Mandy penned, "watching my father escort her down the aisle!!!"
And for those speculating whether Mandy felt slighted that Selena didn't ask her to perform the honor, she swiftly put those rumors to rest, commenting on a media report, "This is ludicrous!" Further cementing the harmonious relationship between them, Mandy went on to warmly welcome Benny into the family, describing the couple's love as "a Sunday kind of love."
"All my love to my beautiful daughter @selenagomez and to the greatest son-in-law @itsbennyblanco!!!" she continued in her post. "It was a fairytale come true."
Selena, 33, had previously hinted at her desire to honor her grandfather for a very special reason. "I'm looking forward to having a special dance with my papa," she shared on the "Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware" podcast in April. "He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle because—good for my mom—she decided to elope to Vegas and was like, 'Whooo.'"
Selena added, referring to her mother's 2006 elopement with Brian, "It's very cute that they did that, but I wanted to give my grandfather the opportunity to experience that."
Selena has been open about the challenges of growing up in a blended family. She previously told Ryan Seacrest that it was "confusing" for her to see her parents—who had her as teenagers—split up when she was only 5 years old. "I never really understood it. And to be honest, I think I blamed my mom, and I just yearned for a family," Selena confessed. "Then, as I grew up, I realized my mom made all the right decisions."
Still, the Disney Channel alum explained that "it was really hard for me to accept my stepdad" at first. "I was still really young," she noted. "I was 8, and I wanted my family to be together. Then, all of a sudden, I realized how happy my mom was. Brian stepped into this dad role, and then I felt like I had the family that I'd always wanted."
