Serena Williams has embraced a striking new visage, recently revealing a remarkable 31-pound weight loss and candidly discussing her journey. During the August 21 episode of "Today," she openly shared, "Many have been curious about my fitness transformation and the steps I've taken. I've been transparent about utilizing GLP-1 medications, and I felt it crucial to address this openly." Her motive stems from a desire to dismantle the stigma surrounding drugs like Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Rybelsus, and other injectable treatments. "For me," she continued, "it was about erasing the misconceptions—that it's a lazy approach, a shortcut, or unnecessary. Why should anyone judge?"
Serena admitted to facing weight loss challenges after welcoming her daughters, Olympia, 7, and Adira, 2, with her husband, Alexis Ohanian. "As a professional tennis player, I trained rigorously for five hours daily, yet the scale wouldn't budge past a certain point," the athlete, who retired in 2022, lamented. Initially skeptical, she recounted, "When GLP-1s emerged, I was resolute: 'Absolutely not for me. Don't enroll me.'" Yet, she likened the medication to a formidable opponent she couldn't conquer despite her efforts.
After exploring various exercise routines and dietary adjustments, Serena deemed GLP-1 the right choice for her, obtaining it through Ro—a healthcare firm she represents as a paid spokesperson, with her husband as an investor. Emphasizing that her decision wasn't solely aesthetics-driven, she told People, "I've never felt pressured to conform to a particular appearance. I've been content at any size. However, my body wasn't happy at that weight. The extra pounds, unfamiliar since motherhood, caused joint aches and discomfort in various areas."
"My previous size wasn't wrong," she added thoughtfully. "It just wasn't what I desired. I sought to attain a state where I felt personally comfortable." Serena joins a growing list of celebrities speaking out about their experiences with weight loss medications.
