As production on the second season of "Shōgun" intensifies, the Emmy-winning drama is expanding its cast with a new roster of actors. Risei Kukihara, Ryô Satô, Seishiro Nishida, Mantaro Koichi, and Takashi Yamaguchi have joined the ensemble for the second season of the FX series, which is filming in Vancouver with a likely premiere in 2027. Details about their roles are being kept under wraps, except for their character names: Gabriel (Kukihara), Rin (Satô), Jōshin (Nishida), Saitō (Koichi), and Kanō (Yamaguchi).

Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will reprise their roles in season two, set more than a decade after the events of the first season. Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri will also return. FX officially renewed the series in April 2025 and has since cast Asami Mizukawa, Masataka Kubota, Sho Kaneta, Takaaki Enoki, Jun Kunimura, and Ren Meguro.
Among the five new additions to the cast, Yamaguchi is perhaps the most recognizable to U.S. audiences, having appeared in "Letters From Iwo Jima," Apple TV's "Pachinko," and episodes of CBS's "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" and Fox's "Accused." Satô had a role in Martin Scorsese's "Silence" and has a long list of film and TV credits in Japan, as does Koichi. Nishida's 2021 film "Ōtsunahiki no Koi/Love and the Grand Tug-of-War" won him the Best Producer award at the 16th Japan Film Festival Los Angeles. "Shōgun" will mark Kukihara's first major role.
FX Productions is the studio behind "Shōgun." Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks created the series for television based on James Clavell's novel, and they executive produce alongside Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca, and Sanada. Kukihara is represented by 42 and CAA.
With this influx of new talent and returning favorites, "Shōgun" season two is shaping up to be an exciting continuation of the historical drama that has captured the hearts of fans worldwide.
