Simu Liu's diamond ring was but a spark in the fireworks of his proposal, for it was accompanied by a surprise appearance from the one and only Taylor Swift. Nearly seven months after the Barbie actor took the plunge and proposed to Allison Hue, he revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on December 15th how the "Bejeweled" singer helped him complete the final act of his vows with a flourish. "My fiancée is a Swiftie," Simu, 36, shared with a grin. "Taylor Swift's music was a pivotal part of the early days of our relationship—I got to know her through those songs and their significance to her. So I thought, 'Well, there's one person who could make this engagement truly special.'"
The Kim's Convenience star reached out to Taylor's publicist and asked if she could "make a two-second video" for his fiancée. Two days later, he received a brief clip of the 37-year-old congratulating Allison on the start of this new chapter in their romance. "Taylor Swift was the cherry on top," he joked. "I was thinking, 'Wow, I should plan things more often.'" He added that his partner had a strong reaction to the surprise. "She was emotional before, but when I played that video, she lost it completely."
Indeed, the 28-year-old digital marketing executive beamed with pride when she and Simu announced their engagement in May. At the time, the duo—who started dating in 2022—shared several photos of them kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Instagram, her diamond ring gleaming in the background. Shortly after she shared a close-up shot of the jewel, Simu dedicated a touching tribute to Allison.
"From weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between," the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor wrote at the time. "I choose you forever and always." And when he isn't reflecting on their romantic getaways in the city of love, he's praising her for changing his life for the better. "She inspires me in her passion for music (well...one musician specifically), teaches me how to balance a busy and chaotic schedule with grace, and touches me in how she cares for each and every person in her life," he wrote on Instagram in August 2023. "Most importantly, she shows me that the people we love are always worth fighting for."
