During a lively "Weekend Update" segment on Saturday Night Live, a handful of studio audience members displayed an unexpected surge of enthusiasm. Cast member Ego Nwodim made her entrance during the news segment, promoting herself as the ideal comedian to entertain at the White House Correspondents Association dinner, cleverly capitalizing on the recent news that Amber Ruffin had been disinvited from performing at the April 26th event.
When co-anchor Colin Jost remarked that the WHCA preferred to steer clear of an abundance of political humor, Nwodim quickly responded, "That's because every year, a comedian takes the stage and dishes out trash talk about the White House and the media. But no one's ever dared to poke fun at the dinner itself." With this, she unveiled her stand-up persona, Ms. Eggy, stepping forward from behind the "Update" anchor desk to unleash a barrage of jokes revolving around food, men, and sex.
Engaging the crowd, she playfully declared, "This is Ms. Eggy, and Ms. Eggy don't…" prompting a few audience members to excitedly shout "play!" However, her subsequent attempt to involve the audience took an unexpected turn. "Cory Booker out here with his filibuster – oh no, I've had my fill of busters. Cause these men ain't what?" Nwodim, now embodying Ms. Eggy, held her microphone out to the crowd. During the live broadcast, the audience's response was bleeped out, but it sounded as though at least a couple of individuals shouted "shit" in response to her question. During the rebroadcast and the YouTube version, this portion was completely silenced. Pay close attention to the segment below and notice the noticeable lull in audio at the 3:15 mark.
Nwodim handled the outburst with professionalism, remarking, "We finna get fined for that," acknowledging that the intended response was "worth a damn." "Y'all gonna have to pay for that. Lorne's gonna be mad at y'all," she added. The April 5th episode of SNL, hosted by Jack Black, featured a returning appearance by Mike Myers as Elon Musk and poked fun at President Donald Trump's newly announced tariffs and Morgan Wallen's sudden departure from the show just a week prior.
