‘SNL’ Writer Pokes Fun at Controversial Morgan Wallen Post

Josh Patten, a writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL), playfully mocked Morgan Wallen's Instagram post after the country music sensation made an unexpected exit from the NBC sketch comedy show. Wallen had delivered two tracks from his forthcoming album, titled I'm the Problem, during Saturday night's broadcast, including the album's namesake and "Just in Case."

As the closing credits rolled, Wallen was spotted standing alongside guest host Mikey Madison, a fresh Oscar winner for Best Actress thanks to her role in Anora. With the band playing and the credits scrolling, Madison exclaimed, "I had a wonderful time, thank you all." Wallen then embraced Madison, whispered something in her ear, and hastily departed the stage.

Shortly after, he shared an Instagram Stories snap that appeared to be a private jet on a runway, captioned with the words, "Get me to God's country." Patten, ever the mischievous one, responded to Wallen's post with his own Instagram Stories picture. His photo featured a Krispy Kreme truck with its rear doors ajar, accompanied by the exact same caption ("get me to God's country") that Wallen had used.

When a media outlet picked up on Patten's image, querying, "Guessing Patten's not a Morgan Wallen fan?" he shot back with an eye-rolling emoji and appended a screenshot of his 2023 Apple Music playlist, revealing that several Wallen songs were included.

Wallen has yet to elucidate the significance behind his post. The Hollywood Reporter has contacted representatives for both Wallen and SNL for additional comment.

Wallen's appearance on Saturday's SNL marked his second-ever stint on the show and his first since a video emerged of him using the N-word in a conversation with a friend. Although he apologized for his usage of the slur, his career temporarily stumbled, with radio stations pulling him from their playlists and awards ceremonies, such as the American Music Awards, declining to invite him despite his nomination. Nevertheless, he remains one of country music's most triumphant artists. I'm the Problem is set to release on May 16.
