The Schwartz legacy is set to shine once again as the cast of Amazon MGM Studios' highly anticipated sequel to *Spaceballs* is officially unveiled. The studio confirmed on Thursday that beloved stars Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner will reprise their iconic roles from the original cult classic, joining the previously announced return of Mel Brooks, who not only stars but also lends his creative genius to the project.
Adding a fresh twist to the intergalactic comedic adventure, newcomers Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan are set to bring their unique talents to the screen, portraying brand-new characters that promise to inject even more hilarity into the mix.

Steering the ship of this comedic odyssey is Josh Greenbaum, who takes the helm as director, working from a script penned by Gad himself, alongside the talented duo Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. The producing team is a powerhouse of creativity, featuring Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Jeb Brody from Imagine Entertainment, alongside Gad, Brooks, Greenbaum, and Kevin Salter, ensuring a blend of seasoned expertise and innovative vision.
While plot details and the title of this *Star Wars*-spoofing follow-up remain shrouded in mystery, the anticipation is palpable. Production on the *Spaceballs* sequel is already underway, with a theatrical release slated for 2027, promising audiences a nostalgic yet refreshingly new comedic experience.
Originally released by MGM in 1987, a decade after George Lucas' *Star Wars* revolutionized cinema and became a cultural phenomenon, *Spaceballs* starred Bill Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, Wyner, and the late John Candy, with Joan Rivers lending her voice as a hilarious parody of C-3P0. The film grossed $38.1 million at the box office (equivalent to $108 million today) and has since become a cherished cult favorite.
During the summer of 2024, Gad stirred up excitement among fans with a teasing Instagram post. "Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on, and I am so freaking excited," he wrote, expressing his enthusiasm. He added that collaborating with Samit and Hernandez "has been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!"
