Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, who embodied the iconic duo, met their demise towards the end of the fourth season's finale. Years after Superman, his family, and their allies vanquished Doomsday and incarcerated Lex Luthor, Lois' cancer relapsed, ultimately claiming her life due to the ravages of the disease. Clark, following a few years later, succumbed to heart failure and was reunited with Lois in the afterlife.

In a conversation with ComicBook, Fletcher revealed that they were entrusted with the responsibility of being the "sole live-action Superman [venture] that had the chance to bring the narrative to a definitive close." They embraced this charge wholeheartedly, opting to "traverse the entire journey." He elaborated, "Let's illuminate the profound significance of Clark and Lois' lives to our audience, who have been accompanying them on this odyssey. Thus, let them complete their voyage and bring the circle to a close. It seemed like a fulfilling denouement."

Fletcher also tackled the bittersweet nature of the conclusion, emphasizing how it underscored the emotional depth of the series finale. "We sensed it could achieve what both Todd [Helbing] and I deeply admire in cinema, literature, and television—that delicate balance of 'happy sad,'" he explained. "I am particularly fond of 'happy sad.' The amalgamation of joy and sorrow is something I cherish, and we felt this episode encapsulated all of that. It was stunning and beautifully encapsulated the essence of the show," Fletcher further articulated.

Helbing, meanwhile, reflected on the storied legacy of Superman and the weight of concluding their narrative with the demise of the legendary superhero. "It felt like a magnificent way to land the plane gracefully and leave a lasting, meaningful impression on our audience," he added.

In addition to Hoechlin and Tulloch, the talented ensemble cast includes Alex Garfin, Wolé Parks, and Michael Cudlitz, who brought their respective characters to life with immense heart and skill.
