After several months of production hiatus and the appointment of a new showrunner earlier this year, the highly anticipated series "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" has restarted filming for its second season exclusively on Prime Video. Season two is now under the guidance of showrunner and writer Anna Ouyang Moench (Beef, Severance), who joined the team in January. She steps into the role previously held by co-creator and season one showrunner Francesca Sloane, who in September 2025 inked an overall deal with HBO.

In addition to the fresh leadership, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" producers Amazon MGM Studios and New Regency hit the reset button on season two. The series will now star Talia Ryder (Honey Don’t!, West Side Story) alongside Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora) in season two. Ryder replaces Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), who had been attached to play Mrs. Smith for a long time, though sources noted at the time of Moench’s hiring that availability could become an issue.
Maya Erskine, who starred alongside co-creator Donald Glover in season one, will be an executive producer on the second season alongside Moench, Glover, Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Stephen Glover, Anthony Katagas, and Fam Udeorji. The story details for the second season are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected that the show will follow the broad strokes of season one, where Glover and Erskine’s characters were hired by a mysterious spy agency to take on new identities and embark on missions across the globe. "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is loosely based on the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Season two will be set in Los Angeles, relocating from New York. The show received a $22.4 million tax credit in March 2025 from the California Film Commission to film in the state.
