Tallulah Willis is addressing the scrutiny surrounding her decision to share photos of her father, Bruce Willis, amidst his battle with frontotemporal dementia. On Sunday, June 22nd, the 31-year-old posted heart-melting snapshots of the 70-year-old actor via Instagram, captioning the post, "Sunday funday at Grams! Grateful." The images captured Tallulah and Bruce embracing, their smiles radiating warmth and joy.
While the post garnered numerous positive responses, it also attracted some criticism. One fan remarked on Monday, "I don't think you should expose your dad to the public! He is vulnerable!" The fan further scolded, "And some things should be kept private! You don't have his permission to post it!"
In a thoughtful response, Tallulah wrote, "Hi. I hear that. As a family, we exercise discretion when posting. Today was a wonderful day filled with genuine smiles." She elaborated, "I made the conscious decision to share this with the world because I understand the profound impact he has on everyone's lives."
Many commenters quickly came to Tallulah's defense. One woman, referencing the first image in the series where Bruce holds his daughter's hand, wrote, "This is a heartfelt picture. There should be no critique of her sharing this. Bruce and his daughter are raising awareness, hoping for a cure someday."
Demi Moore, Bruce's ex-wife, has also been candid about his health journey. Bruce shares Tallulah and her sisters Rumer, 36, and Scout, 33, with Moore. He is also the father of Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with his wife Emma Heming Willis. The family has been open about Bruce's health battle on social media for the past few years. In March 2022, they announced that Bruce had been diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder affecting language comprehension and speech. A year later, they revealed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, which, according to the Alzheimer's Association, can lead to behavioral and personality changes, as well as difficulties with language production and comprehension.
On Father's Day, Rumer reflected on the profound changes in their lives since Bruce's diagnosis. "Today is challenging. I feel a deep sorrow in my heart, wanting to talk to you and share every detail of my life with you," she posted on Instagram alongside photos of herself and her dad. "To hug you and ask about life, your stories, struggles, and successes." She continued, "I wish I had asked you more questions when you could still tell me everything. But I know you wouldn't want me to be sad today, so I'll try to be grateful, reminding myself how fortunate I am to have you as my dad, still by my side, allowing me to hold you, hug you, kiss your cheek, and rub your head. I can tell you stories, even now."
