Taylor Swift confesses that she dislikes the tendency of Swifties to go overboard when decoding the inspirations behind her songs. In a recent interview with The New York Times, as part of their profile on the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters, the Grammy winner discussed the creative process behind her chart-topping music. Swift admitted that while she is immensely grateful for her dedicated fanbase, their analysis can feel invasive.

Taylor Swift spoke about the fan behavior she doesn't appreciate in the New York Times' new profile on the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters. The pop superstar admitted that while she is incredibly grateful for her loyal fanbase, some fans can become overly obsessive in their attempts to decipher the inspiration behind her songs.
Swift explained, "There are certain corners of my fanbase who take things to an extreme. There's nothing I can do about that. Some people try to do detective work, figure out the details - who is this song about? What does it mean?"
Furthermore, the singer confessed that it becomes "weird" when a certain section of Swifties treats it like a "paternity test." Swift remarked, "When it gets a little bit weird for me is when people act like it's a paternity test. Like, 'This song's about that person.' Because I'm like, 'That dude didn't write the song, I did.' But that's part of it."
However, the "Lover" crooner confessed that she has learned to make peace with it and treat it as a part of her fame. "You have to hold tight to your perception of your art and your relationship with it, and then you kind of have to let it go. There it goes. Hope you like it. And if you don't now, hope you do in five years. If you never do, then I was doing it for me anyway," Swift added.
Fans are well aware that the Grammy winner has been in several high-profile relationships over the years, including Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas, Joe Alwyn, and Matty Healy. On the internet, fans have dissected her famous songs' lyrics, wondering which ex-boyfriend they refer to (via PEOPLE). Swift is currently engaged to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and she dedicated the songs "Opalite" and "Wood" to her fiancé.
