A fresh report has stirred the pot of speculation, hinting that Taylor Swift might don the crown of a Disney princess in an upcoming venture. A recent update from the studio signals their keen interest in the singer for a prominent role, offering a sneak peek into the developing casting discussions within Disney's live-action slate.

The rumor mill churned after an industry insider, MyTimeToShineHello, posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Disney has their eye on Taylor Swift for a Disney Princess role." The post remained vague on the specific character and did not confirm any casting decisions. It followed earlier online chatter linking Swift to the part of Rapunzel in Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated film Tangled. The remake was first reported to be in the works late last year.

Despite previous reports stating that Swift has not been officially cast as Rapunzel, MyTimeToShineHello suggested in earlier posts that she was in the running. Disney has kept mum on Swift's potential involvement. Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that the studio was also considering Florence Pugh for Rapunzel and eyeing Kathryn Hahn for the role of Mother Gothel.

Mandy Moore, the original voice of Rapunzel, named Sabrina Carpenter as a potential casting choice in a 2024 interview with Elite Daily, stating, "I could see her with 50 feet of hair or something. She looks like a Disney princess in real life." The official cast for the live-action project remains under wraps. A Deadline report stated that Michael Gracey was in talks to direct the film with a script draft by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Additional casting speculation swirled when MyTimeToShineHello reported, "I hear that an actress from The White Lotus is the frontrunner to play Rapunzel in Tangled." The post did not name the actress, but Gigi Hadid revealed she had auditioned for the role before early development delays. Reports also listed Sarah Catherine Hook, Aimee Lou Wood, and Sydney Sweeney, among others, as contenders. Scarlett Johansson earlier expressed her potential interest in the role of Mother Gothel, saying, "What would excite me about it would be the opportunity to work with Michael Gracey… an extraordinary visionary."

With so many names in the mix, it remains to be seen who will officially don the garb and take on the role in this much-anticipated film.
