Taylor Swift has sought a restraining order against a 45-year-old stalker who, she alleges, has been unwelcomely turning up at her Los Angeles residences for nearly a year, falsely claiming to share a romantic relationship with her. The megastar formally requested protection on Friday, accusing Brian Jason Wagner of Henderson, Colorado, of harassment and stalking that has caused her considerable emotional turmoil.
According to Swift's statement, Wagner first began his unwanted visits in July 2024, making at least three appearances at her home that month alone. On each occasion, he was confronted by her security detail, and during one visit, he was reportedly carrying a glass bottle, which could potentially serve as a weapon.
"On each of these intrusions, I have been informed that Mr. Wagner made various outlandish assertions, such as residing at my property (untrue), being in a romantic entanglement with me (untrue), believing I am the mother of his child (utterly false), and insisting on seeing me personally, all of which are fabricated and disconnected from reality," Swift detailed in her statement.
Wagner allegedly returned to her Los Angeles abode twice the previous month, demanding to see her and falsely claiming he was "checking on a friend." It was then that Swift's team conducted a criminal background check, revealing that Wagner had been incarcerated in 2023 when he initiated "lengthy communications" detailing his obsession with her, false claims of a relationship, and other fantastical assertions about their supposed personal connection.
A member of Swift's security team, who also filed a statement, revealed that Wagner had made hundreds of attempts to communicate with Swift during his incarceration, prompting them to flag him as a serious threat with a "security alert."
"Mr. Wagner has sent hundreds of emails to my staff filled with alarming and menacing language, attempted to reroute my mail to himself, and even deceived the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to change his driver's license address to my Los Angeles home," the singer recounted. A driver's license listing Swift's Los Angeles address as Wagner's residence was delivered to her property, alerting her security team to his actions.
Swift emphatically asserts in her filing that she does not know Wagner and has never encountered him, spoken to him, or disclosed her Los Angeles address to him. Her staff has recently seen a surge in communications from Wagner, with over 26 emails in the past few weeks alone, alleged a member of her security team.
"Hence, Mr. Wagner's persistence in locating my residence, his repeated visits to the property despite being asked to leave, and his demands for access, evoke a genuine fear for my safety and that of my family," Swift emphasized in her statement. "The recent escalation in his visits and his inappropriate, threatening communications to my staff have fostered a genuine apprehension of impending harm."
Neither Swift's attorney nor her representative immediately responded to requests for comment. A hearing is scheduled for June 30, according to court documents, and in the meantime, Swift has been granted a temporary restraining order protecting herself, her home, her vehicle, and her workplace from Wagner. Should a judge grant the permanent restraining order, any violation by Wagner could lead to his arrest.
Wagner did not promptly respond to a request for comment, and it remains unclear whether he is represented by legal counsel. This is hardly the first instance where Swift has been the target of alleged stalking or harassment.
In 2024, a man was charged with stalking and harassment after making approximately 30 unannounced visits to her New York home within a couple of months. Two years earlier, a Virginia man was accused of crashing his car into the same New York apartment under the influence of alcohol before attempting to force his way inside. In 2019, an Iowa man was arrested near her Rhode Island home carrying a backpack filled with over 30 lock picks and other burglary tools, confessing to police that he hoped to meet Swift.
