On July 23, Netflix confirmed the exhilarating news that "Wednesday," the darkly delightful series starring Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams from "The Addams Family," has been granted a third season renewal even before the premiere of its highly anticipated second season.
"It has been a mesmerizing treat to witness Wednesday casting her enigmatic spell over global audiences, one dry wit at a time," expressed Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the show's creative masterminds, in a press release. "We are absolutely thrilled that she will once again haunt the corridors of Nevermore Academy in season three. This forthcoming chapter will see her unearthing even more of the school's sinister secrets, diving deeper into the crypt of the Addams family. Or, as Wednesday herself might put it: 'Nothing unites a family quite like a good old-fashioned exhumation!'"
The first half of "Wednesday's" second season will hit screens on August 6, with the second half following suit just a few weeks later on September 3.
Amidst this exciting announcement, the series' director, Tim Burton, cleverly sidestepped a question about his ideal number of seasons for the show, which also boasts a stellar cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, and Luis Guzmán. "I don't ponder such things," he told The Hollywood Reporter during a joint interview with Jenna on July 23. "You're asking two people who aren't the best to answer that question."
Regardless of the show's eventual longevity, whispers of a potential "Wednesday" spinoff are already swirling. "It's something we're definitely toying with," Alfred revealed to THR. "There are other intriguing characters worth exploring."
Back in March, Jenna shared her enthusiasm for working with Burton, telling E! News, "Everything is so vividly imagined. It's incredibly exciting and inspiring to collaborate with someone who ignites your passion for every shot you're crafting each day." This is quite a statement, considering the 22-year-old actress admitted that filming the series "isn't always easy."
"At times, it feels like a slog to cross the finish line," Jenna elaborated, "but he consistently keeps things thrilling, and it's nearly impossible to grow weary of a character as captivating as Wednesday."
