Sometimes, stars truly are just like ordinary folks. After all, Ed Sheeran confessed that he learned about his friend Taylor Swift and her fiancé Travis Kelce's engagement in the exact same way as everyone else did. As he revealed during a Sept. 24 appearance on SiriusXM’s Small Stage series, the news reached him through "Instagram." Demonstrating Taylor's current penchant for keeping her personal life under wraps, when questioned about whether he had heard her upcoming album *The Life of a Showgirl*—set to be released on Oct. 3—or received a save-the-date for her wedding, Ed quickly distanced himself from either matter, simply replying, "No."
For fans of the cherished "Sweeran" friendship, as Ed and Taylor have affectionately dubbed it, Ed's lack of insight into Taylor's inner world might come as a shock. After all, Taylor played a pivotal role in Ed's own fairy-tale romance with Cherry Seaborn, with whom the "Thinking Out Loud" crooner shares daughters Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3. "Our anniversary is her 4th of July party," Ed admitted to People back in 2017. "I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, 'I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,' and I was like, 'So am I.' I kinda said to Taylor, 'Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?' The rest is history." Indeed, Ed—who first crossed paths with Cherry in primary school—even paid homage to that fateful moment in Taylor’s *Reputation* track "End Game," where he sings, "After the storm, something was born on the 4th of July."
A year after their fateful reunion, Taylor marked the occasion for the blissful couple, who eventually tied the knot in 2019, at the very same event. "Remember the sign that I made for your first anniversary?" Taylor quipped to her collaborator in a behind-the-scenes clip for the "End Game" music video in 2017. "Happy Ed-iver-Cherry." And while Taylor emphasized she thought Cherry was the "coolest" in the same video, Ed also divulged that it wasn't the first instance she acted as his matchmaker. "When I first met Taylor, I was in a relationship and she was in a relationship, and we just forged a friendship," Ed reminisced during a 2017 appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show, joking that Taylor "encouraged" him to date her other friends. "She was the world’s best wingman," he chuckled. "I’d like to say that I help wingman too, but probably not as well."
