Country music singer Sundance Head, a triumphant contestant from "The Voice," is currently convalescing at his home after a harrowing accident during a hunting expedition at his East Texas ranch saw him inadvertently shot in the abdomen while handling a firearm, according to his agent on Sunday.
Head, who emerged victorious in the 11th season of NBC's "The Voice" in 2016, was in the midst of reaching into his vehicle to retrieve his .22 caliber pistol. In a freak accident, the gun slipped out of its holster, tumbled onto the exterior of the vehicle, and discharged, striking Head in the stomach. This grim sequence of events was recounted by his agent, Trey Newman, via email.
Newman further elaborated that Head was promptly airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, situated approximately 100 miles (161 kilometers) east of Dallas. Fortunately, the bullet did not graze any vital organs, necessitating no surgical intervention. Subsequently, Head was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
Prior to his triumphant stint on "The Voice," Head had already made waves by participating in "American Idol" on Fox in 2007, advancing to the top 16 before ultimately being eliminated.
Hailing from the quaint community of Porter, nestled north of Houston, Head has several performances lined up in Texas and Illinois in the near future.
