Published: Oct 29 2025

Tilda Swinton will rekindle her role in the one-person show "Man to Man" in both London and New York. The production will premiere at London's Royal Court Theatre on September 5th, 2026, followed by a run in New York in Spring 2027. This marks the first time Swinton, an Academy Award winner for her role in "Michael Clayton," has returned to the stage in over three decades. Swinton last appeared in the production in 1988 in London. Set in 1930s Germany and written by Manfred Karge, the play follows a woman who takes on the identity of her deceased husband. Stephen Unwin directs this production, with design by Bunny Christie and translation by Anthony Vivis.

Prior to the New York run in Spring 2027, the production will transfer to the Berliner Ensemble for a limited run in Germany. The Royal Court Theatre, Berliner Ensemble, and Brian and Dayna Lee are producing this exciting event. Brian and Dayna Lee also have a first-look deal with the Royal Court this season, which includes the world premiere of "Guess How Much I Love You?" by Luke Norris, "The Shitheads" by Jack Nicholls, and "Archduke" by Rajiv Joseph.

In addition, the Royal Court Theatre has announced the return of Gary Oldman, who launched his early career at the theater and will star in and direct "Krapp's Last Tape," written by Samuel Beckett, for a limited four-week run starting May 8th, 2026.
