Timothée Chalamet Says Matthew McConaughey Left “Huge Turd” in Trailer Toilet as a Prank

Timothée Chalamet was unprepared to witness the kind of debris that materialized in outer space. Reflecting on his role in the 2014 film Interstellar, he shared that his on-screen father, Matthew McConaughey, left him a NSFW parting gift on his last day of filming.

"I was deeply moved and saddened by the fact that I had to leave," Timothée said in their joint interview with CNN on February 24th. "I went to my trailer and the bathroom, where I found a massive turd in my toilet. I felt so disrespected. I thought, 'I know I'm not the star of this movie, but who did this?'"

The 30-year-old was stunned by the sight and asked several crew members—including the "big guys" who operated the equipment on set—if they "let it go" in his trailer, but to no avail. Timothée then went to director Christopher Nolan, who named Matthew as the culprit.

"Matthew had this devilish grin on his face," Timothée recalled jokingly. "I asked, 'Why did you do that?' And he said, 'It's a Texas coming of age, baby.'" In fact, he revealed that the Dallas Buyers Club actor—who shares kids Levi, 17, Livingston, 15, and Vida, 12, with wife Camila Alves—described it as an unforgettable "souvenir."

While an unpleasant prank, Timothée will always cherish his memories from working on Interstellar. After all, he was only 17 when he landed the role, and he still finds it "inspiring" that he made his film debut alongside a veteran actor like Matthew.

"That movie, to me, is really the origin point in seeing how you carried yourself on set and how seriously you took the work," he expressed to his former castmate. "I feel like coming out of high school, it's hard to take yourself super seriously. It can feel like you're wasting time." But instead, this opportunity fulfilled Timothée as an aspiring actor.

"It changed my life," the Dune actor continued, before praising Matthew's work ethic. "I can't thank you enough for being warm to me at that time. You had no reason to be warm to me."

True to Timothée's love for Interstellar, he later revealed that his girlfriend Kylie Jenner surprised him with a screening of Interstellar on his birthday in December. Though a heartfelt gift, he also noted that he was on edge leading up to the event.

"I was grumpy on the way there because I didn't know where she was taking me," he teased. "Like, 'It's my birthday. Why are we driving 30 minutes outside of L.A.?'" He continued, "I got to the theater and I said, 'Oh, I'm sorry for being so grumpy on the drive.' I love that movie, man."
