Timothee Chalamet has recently revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow was not his first choice for their latest film, Marty Supreme. According to Radar Online, the Wonka star had his heart set on Julia Roberts as his love interest in the Josh Safdie-directed movie. However, the Notting Hill actress was hesitant to take on the role primarily due to the 28-year age gap between herself and Timothee.
An insider told Daily Mail, "Julia was offered the role and wanted to work with Timothee, but after reading the script which she loved, she turned it down." "She simply didn't think the audience would buy her as a romantic interest to someone so much younger," a source explained.
The movie's producers, including Timothee himself, "tried their best to convince" Julia that she and the actor would "gel on screen" and even increased her offer to close to $20 million, but the Pretty Woman actress's answer was still a "firm no."
Another source spilled to the outlet, "The character on paper was something Julia would do incredibly in, but although she believed in the script and loves Timothee's work, she didn't connect with it enough to see herself in the role." "And from seeing the trailer, Julia still believes she made the right decision and that Gwyneth is going to crush it," added an insider.
Meanwhile, Gwyneth, who broke her acting hiatus with this movie, shared that she signed up for the film thanks to her daughter, Apple Martin. "Gwyneth agreed to co-star with Timothee thanks to her daughter, who has had a crush on the Dune star for years," an insider disclosed.
Interestingly, the Iron Man actress informed Apple that Timothee is not only a producer but also the lead actor, "and she pleaded with her mom to accept," stated a source.
