On Friday, Tom Holland sustained a mild concussion while filming his highly anticipated upcoming superhero flick, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," Variety can exclusively confirm. As a precautionary measure, the star will step away from the set temporarily and is expected to make a swift return in just a few days. Sony, the studio co-producing the movie with Marvel Studios, will convene on Monday to devise a strategic plan moving forward. Thankfully, no one else was harmed during the incident.

Production for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" kicked off in Glasgow in early August, with the film slated to grace theaters on July 31 of next year. Last month, Sony delighted fans by unveiling a video of Holland donning his new Spidey suit on set—marking his first return as the web-slinger since 2021's blockbuster, "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

"It's day one, my fourth ever day one on 'Spider-Man.' It's funny, putting the suit on this time feels different somehow. It's also the first time we've ever had fans on set day one, so it's genuinely thrilling to share this moment with them," Holland shared in the video. "We've got some familiar faces around here. I'm just going to give it my all, hopefully nail it, no pressure."

Among those familiar faces are "Spider-Man" stalwarts Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, alongside fresh faces making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, such as "The Bear" star Liza Colon-Zayas, Emmy winner Tramell Tillman from "Severance," and "Stranger Things" sensation Sadie Sink. Additionally, Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner, better known as the Hulk, in "Brand New Day," along with Jon Bernthal returning as the Punisher and Michael Mando from "Spider-Man: Homecoming" reprising his role as the Scorpion.
