Tom Holland is fully immersing himself in his role on the set of "The Odyssey." On March 26th, Wednesday, the 28-year-old actor was snapped in Italy, donning a complete costume alongside fellow thespian Ryan Hurst for Christopher Nolan's upcoming cinematic endeavor, a adaptation of the ancient Greek epic attributed to the illustrious poet Homer. In the photographs, Holland is seen adorned with a chest plate and metallic armor covering his forearms, with additional armor cascading down to his legs. He stands alongside Hurst, 48, amidst a crew surrounding what seems to be an antique-styled Greek trireme resting gracefully in the water.
Just a day prior to Holland's appearance, his costar Matt Damon was captured flaunting an impressive beard and chiseled abs while filming scenes for the movie in Favignana, Italy. Meanwhile, Holland's fiancée, Zendaya, whose engagement to him was confirmed by PEOPLE in January, was also spotted on set that day. With her hair neatly tucked away, she wore a long, tan Grecian dress, adding an elegant touch to the proceedings.
Universal Pictures initially announced in December 2024 that Nolan, who garnered two Academy Awards in March 2024 for his 2023 film "Oppenheimer," would undertake the ambitious project of bringing the renowned Greek myth to the silver screen. Rumors abound that Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, and Benny Safdie will also star in the film. In it, Damon, 54, will embody the legendary hero Odysseus, with Holland portraying his son Telemachus.
On February 17th, the studio unveiled the first photo from Nolan's adaptation, featuring Damon clad in armor and a cape, accompanied by a coordinating headpiece. As of now, it remains a mystery as to whom Zendaya, 28, will play in the film. However, during an appearance on the "Dish" podcast back in December 2024, Holland revealed that he and his fiancée cherish the opportunities they get to work together. (The duo first crossed paths while starring in Marvel's recent trilogy of "Spider-Man" films.)
"Studios love it — one hotel room!" he joked during the podcast. "Oh God, yeah. It's a saving grace," he added, referring to having Zendaya by his side on set. "Best thing that's ever happened to me."
"The Odyssey" is set to set sail into theaters on July 17th, 2026.
