Published: Jun 09 2025

Kristin Chenoweth isn't about to battle against the pull of gravity when it whispers for her to move on to new horizons. Having made a cameo appearance alongside Idina Menzel—who famously portrayed Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the original Broadway production of "Wicked"—in the film adaptation starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, she opened up about the possibility of reprising their roles in "Wicked: For Good." "I believe Idina and I had our golden moment, and it was truly magical," she raved to Keltie Knight of E! News on the red carpet of the 78th Tony Awards outside Radio City Music Hall. "But let's face it, it's their wand and broom now."

Please, don't take Kristin's candid assessment of any future cameos personally. After all, her enthusiasm for attending the Tonys, where Cynthia is hosting the ceremony for "Wicked: For Good," knew no bounds. (Check out all the stars here.) "I absolutely adore it," she enthused to E!. "It's like coming home. I'm reuniting with all my friends, it's a joyous reunion of sorts."

While Kristin is declining the opportunity to star in another blockbuster film—she has previously heaped praise on the original movie and its successors in the roles of Elphaba and Glinda—her admiration for the new cast is undiminished. "Oh my goodness, I just watched the movie and I'm absolutely blown away," Kristin exclaimed in an Instagram post shortly after the release of the first "Wicked" film in November. "I'm in awe, I'm mesmerized, I'm completely enthralled."

At that time, Kristin remained tight-lipped about her and Idina's cameo but showered praise on Ariana and Cynthia's performances. "The story is so enchanting, and Cynthia and Ariana are outstanding," she continued. "Jon Chu hit it out of the park. I was moved, emotional, ecstatic, and overflowing with joy. Please everyone, go watch 'Wicked,' you'll be blessed."

Similarly, Ariana holds Kristin in high esteem. "I learned everything I know from watching this incredible woman," Ariana said of Kristin on an episode of "The Voice" in 2021. "When we were doing 'Hairspray Live,' you would pitch a joke or suggest a melody change here and there, and ask, 'Does this add value?' As a performer, that completely transformed my life."
