Travis Kelce responded with a playful wink when quizzed about his intentions to pop the question to his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, during the Super Bowl festivities. During a Monday (February 3) press conference in New Orleans, the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end opened up about his over-a-year-long romance with the pop megastar. When a reporter inquired if he had designs on getting engaged amidst the Super Bowl excitement, Kelce simply quipped, "Wouldn't you love to find out?"
When pressed further about whether he intended to propose to Swift by slipping a ring on her finger during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8th, when the Kansas City Chiefs would face off against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce skillfully dodged the question once more. With a mischievous grin, he replied, "A Super Bowl ring? Let's move on to the next question."
Nevertheless, Kelce did share how Swift's professionalism and success had inspired him to keep pushing forward on the field. "I'd better live up to my promises," he stated. "If she's out there being a superstar who never accepts defeat and always gives it her all, then I definitely have to match that energy."
Despite this playful evasion, Kelce did elaborate on how Swift, the singer of "All Too Well," and her work ethic and achievements had motivated him to strive harder on the playing field. "I have to fulfill my duties," he admitted candidly. "If she's out there as a superstar who never gives up and always goes all in, then I need to bring my A-game too."
On Sunday, the Chiefs will face the Eagles in the championship game for the second consecutive year. Moreover, Kelce and the Chiefs have the opportunity to etch their names in NFL history by clinching the title for the third straight year.
During the AFC Championship game on January 26, which sealed the Chiefs' ticket to the Super Bowl, Swift made her way onto the field to congratulate her beau on his victory. "I love you so much," the "Blank Space" crooner gushed, enveloping him in a warm embrace. "I'm so proud of you, I can hardly stand it. Look at what you've accomplished!"
This heartwarming moment on the field came amidst rampant speculation that Kelce might propose at the 2025 Super Bowl. In recent weeks, Swift has been spotted wearing a diamond infinity ring, which fans are convinced is a promise ring, hinting at an impending engagement.
While neither Kelce nor Swift has addressed the engagement rumors head-on, the NFL star did reveal during a January 8 episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce's podcast, New Heights, that there's one time of year he'd never want to tie the knot. "I've witnessed weddings in bloody February. I've seen weddings everywhere except the fall. So, I'm not convinced that fall is a great wedding season," he quipped.
Last month, the tight end also opened up to sports journalist Stephen A. Smith about eventually hanging up his NFL cleats, admitting that his stance on retirement "changes daily." "I adore everything about what I do here, but I'm not experiencing the same level of individual success on the field," he confessed. "I'll reassess as always, probably convince myself how much I love this, and come back next year."
Even so, he made it clear with emphasis that Swift had attended over a dozen of his games since they started dating, yet she had never urged him to retire. "She fully supports me in continuing to embrace this sport," he said. "She loves coming to Arrowhead, to the stadium, to cheer me on. So I have all the support in the world to keep pursuing my dreams." Even in that context, he emphasized once more that Swift had been present at more than ten of his matches since their relationship began, never pressing him to hang up his cleats. "She's all for me enjoying this game," he confessed, "she adores being at Arrowhead Stadium, watching the games, and rooting for me. Thus, I have the backing of the entire world to continue chasing my aspirations."
During Monday's press conference in New Orleans, Kelce clarified that he aspires to continue playing football for many years to come. "Hopefully, still playing football," he said when asked about his plans in three years. "I love doing this, I love coming to work every day. I feel like I still have plenty of good football left in me. We'll see what happens. I know I've been preparing myself for other opportunities in life. That's always been the goal, knowing that football has a finite lifespan."
