On Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded in Los Angeles involving Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer's bassist Scott Shriner. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Jillian Lauren was shot by police officers who were in pursuit of suspects linked to a hit-and-run incident.

The LAPD officers had responded to the scene to assist the California Highway Patrol in tracking down three suspects following a hit-and-run that occurred in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Authorities were in the process of establishing a perimeter in the area after the suspects fled into a residential neighborhood near the intersection of the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street.

As the officers conducted their search, they were checking behind a residence for one of the suspects when they unexpectedly encountered a woman, later identified as Jillian Shriner, who was standing outside a neighboring residence and armed with a handgun. The police repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon, but she refused and allegedly pointed it at them, prompting the officers to shoot her.

Despite the shooting, Jillian Shriner managed to retreat into her home. However, she emerged later and was taken into custody by the LAPD. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported her to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

The police clarified that Jillian Shriner was not involved in the hit-and-run incident and she was charged with attempted murder in absentia. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the shooting. Regarding the hit-and-run suspects, one has been arrested by the Highway Patrol, while two remain at large.

Meanwhile, Weezer—the rock band comprising Rivers Cuomo, Scott Shriner, Patrick Wilson, and Brian Bell—was recently announced as a last-minute addition to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday. This surprise announcement came after several artists, including FKA Twigs and Anitta, withdrew from the music festival.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Weezer's representative for comment on this developing story.
