On March 10, Wendy Williams, who had previously likened her assisted living facility to a "luxury prison," was escorted by the NYPD from the confines of her residence to a nearby hospital for a comprehensive "evaluation," as reported by People magazine. The New York Post disclosed an earlier scene from that morning, where Williams could be seen tossing notes out of her window, each bearing the desperate plea, "Help! Wendy!!" Accompanying these revelations were photographs depicting Williams, phone in hand, frantically waving for assistance from her apartment window. Prompted by concerns for her welfare, authorities were summoned to assess the quality of care Williams was receiving; she had been voicing her desire to leave the facility for an extended period.
During an interview with The Breakfast Club in January, Williams vividly expressed her plight, stating, "I feel like I’m in prison," while firmly asserting that she was "not cognitively impaired." Since being placed under guardianship in 2022 due to allegations of financial exploitation by her bank, Williams has been relentlessly battling to regain her autonomy. Last year, she was diagnosed with dementia and aphasia, conditions she claims have not been reassessed since 2023.
Moreover, her family has struggled to establish communication with Williams while she resides in the facility. Wanda Finnie, Williams's sister, confided in People, "The people who love her cannot see her." Vulture has reached out to Williams’s team seeking further comment on this matter.
