It has been reported that Carlos Valdes, Mae Whitman's co-star in the series "Up Here," is the father of her infant son, Miles. During the March 10 episode of Dax Shepard's podcast "Armchair Expert," Lauren Graham, Whitman's long-time friend and fellow "Parenthood" cast member, revealed that Valdes is indeed the father of Whitman's baby. As Shepard, 50, and Graham, 57, reminisced about their dear friend Whitman, 36, Graham expressed her admiration for Valdes, 35, saying, "I'm envious of your relationship with Mae."

Shepard began by stating, "Really?" and Graham replied, "First of all, it's the sweetest relationship. It's truly special." Graham further elaborated, "It really is," adding, "I still get a little thrill when she replies to my texts because it's not guaranteed. And now she's a mom, working, and in Ireland."

The duo continued to profess their love for Whitman, with Shepard expressing his eagerness to meet her baby son, Miles. Graham recalled, "I'm trying to remember the last time I saw her. They're currently in New York. Carlos, her baby daddy, is starring in 'Hadestown' on Broadway, which I'm happy to plug because he's fantastic in it."

"He's really great," Graham said about her TV daughter's partner. "They'll be in New York for a while, and then she got this job in Ireland, so she's there with the baby."

Representatives for Whitman and Valdes did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment regarding their relationship status.

In August 2024, Whitman and Valdes welcomed their first child together, son Miles. Whitman had previously revealed that she named her son after her best friend, Miles Heizer, who played her brother, Drew Holt, in "Parenthood."

The pair previously portrayed love interests in the short-lived Hulu series "Up Here." Earlier this month, Valdes spoke to PEOPLE about his role in "Hadestown" and revealed that he had recently become a father.

"Not many people know this, but I'm a dad, a relatively new dad," he said. "And it's my personal preference not to share more beyond that. But being a Broadway dad... let me tell you, it's not for the faint-hearted! Balancing this life with parenting is pretty unforgiving."

Valdes mentioned that he sought advice from his "Hadestown" predecessor, Jordan Fisher, on how to juggle the play with being a parent. Fisher, who starred in "To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You," offered Valdes some "invaluable" advice about portraying the character of Orpheus.

"We had a sentimental 'passing of the torch' conversation, and one of the many things he imparted to me was that as dads, we have a superpower in playing Orpheus because we can allow the fruits of that experience to color our approach to this very childlike character in a very natural and informed way," Valdes said. "Since I started in the show on Jan. 14, he couldn't be more correct."

"I've really put a lot of my own personal experience as a dad and as a fan of my child into Orpheus' own naivete of looking at the world," he added. "So I'm very grateful to Jordan for sharing that wisdom."
