At present, the specific roles Taylor-Johnson and Depp will undertake remain shrouded in mystery, and their casting has yet to be officially confirmed. Similarly, the identity of the other actors set to star in "Werwulf" is also unknown. However, during the promotional tour for "Nosferatu," Eggers did hint that he had extended an invitation to Willem Dafoe to appear in two of his forthcoming films.

Filming for "Werwulf" is scheduled to commence this September in Elstree, England, suggesting that the casting process for the film is likely already in full swing. With this in mind, it is anticipated that more details about the production will surface in the near future.

In a question-and-answer session held at the Lincoln Center, Eggers himself revealed that "Werwulf" will be the darkest screenplay he has ever penned. Slated for a December 25, 2026, release, the movie promises to immerse viewers in a 13th-century England setting, with dialogue and settings meticulously authentic to the period, a hallmark of Eggers' works.

Initially, rumors circulated that the film would be presented in black and white, as per The Hollywood Reporter. However, these speculations have proven unfounded.

Prior to the announcement of "Werwulf," whispers suggested that Eggers was in talks to direct a new adaptation of "Labyrinth." The director has also expressed his desire to helm a medieval film titled "The Knight" and has harbored dreams of one day making a Western. Additionally, there have been rumors about his involvement in a miniseries centered around Grigori Rasputin, the enigmatic Russian mystic and faith healer.
