What Rebecca Ferguson Learned From “Scary” On Set Confrontation With Costar

Rebecca Ferguson is refusing to let the past dictate her narrative. Two years after the Dune actress disclosed that she was once screamed at by an irate cast member – whom she has never identified – while on set, she reminisced about the experience, sharing how she would handle it differently if it were to occur today.

“It wasn’t about the individual,” Rebecca told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published on February 4th. “It was about me. It was terrifying. I didn’t know then how to say, ‘Hey, can I speak to you privately?’ Now, I would believe I could have taken this person aside.”

For Rebecca, 42, the evolving dynamics of Hollywood have empowered her in a way they hadn’t during that past incident.

“Many people claim that we’ve become overly woke, but I think it’s fantastic,” she continued. “The pendulum needs to swing to the other side so we can find a balance.”

While Rebecca never named the person who harassed her – in fact, she has since assured it wasn’t her past costars Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman – she received an overwhelming display of support after first sharing the story in 2024.

“I hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bullshit,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, her Hercules costar, wrote in a post on X at the time. “Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on our set. I love that woman.”

After sharing her experience with the individual, Rebecca – who shares a 7-year-old daughter with husband Rory St. Clair Gainer and a 19-year-old son with ex Ludwig Hallberg – realized, as she told The Times in October, “Other people who have worked with this person also had a shitty time.”

But despite publicly calling out the person, Rebecca admitted at the time that they never reached out to her – though she isn’t holding her breath for it.

“We place a lot of blame on bullies and as we grow older, we understand that people are insecure,” she added to the outlet. “When you start standing up for yourself, it’s really tricky. They’ll fire you and give the job to someone else.”
