It appears that the golden days for SZA and Nicki Minaj may be a relic of the past. After the "Super Bass" rapper unleashed a barrage of eyebrow-raising tweets lambasting the "Snooze" singer, SZA struck back with a scathing counterattack. However, this spat didn't spring from thin air. The seeds of discord were sown when Nicki initially called out rapper Punch, who is also under SZA's Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) label, accusing him of "bullying me on Twitter for absolutely no reason" (Punch has refrained from publicly addressing these allegations to date).
"So relieved I possess irrefutable proof of being bullied and publicly misrepresented by a man," Nicki, 42, fumed in a July 15th post on X, "on a platform I use professionally; all this after I politely declined his business proposals multiple times."
Moments after her tirade against Punch, SZA, 35, posted her own cryptic message on the platform, quipping, "Mercury retrograde... resist the bait, silly goose." Although she didn't tag anyone specifically, Nicki swiftly accused the "Kill Bill" crooner of subtly tweeting about her, responding, "Go ahead and redraw those freckles, bookworm."
Nicki's attack on SZA didn't stop at personal jabs; she also went on to critique the singer's appearance in subsequent tweets. "She looks and sounds like she's been stung by a bloody bee," Nicki sneered in one tweet. "Dots connected... *applies fake freckles*."
Moreover, Nicki's ire wasn't limited to SZA's looks. She also questioned the singer's artistic accomplishments, particularly a recent milestone her 2022 album "SOS" achieved by going 9x Platinum in less than three years. This feat made SZA the sole Black artist to spend over 80 weeks in the Billboard 200's Top 10, surpassing Michael Jackson's record.
"She released a deluxe version of an album that was already out for a year or two just so the original could break records," Nicki scoffed. "What kind of insecure, morally bankrupt tactics are these? I thought she was a genuine artist. Girl, bye."
In response to Nicki's accusations, SZA didn't engage directly. However, she did voice her unwavering stance when a fan warned her about Nicki's fervent fanbase, "the Barbz," potentially launching an attack.
"I face bullying from millions online daily, yet I step out onto sold-out stadium tours where people shower me with genuine affection. In real life," SZA declared on X on July 15th. "My parents are healthy, and I'm more successful than ever. Get some bloody perspective and bark up the wrong tree!"
