Diane Lane, the Oscar-nominated actress, recently visited The Drew Barrymore Show to share her experience from the 1983 film The Outsiders, where she admits to a testosterone-filled set.
As Barrymore inquired about her time on set with a predominantly male cast including Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, and Matt Dillon, Lane laughed and confessed, "It was hot! It was great." However, she also admitted that as the only female on set, "It was kind of... too much testosterone for one girl."

Lane explained that she often sought solitude to avoid the overwhelming presence of the male actors. "So I kept to myself," she said. "But I was definitely pinching myself. I was definitely overwhelmed."
Barrymore understood Lane's experience and quipped, "I think that was the movie that made me realize, 'I like boys.' I was like, 'Oh wow, I get it now.'"
Based on S.E. Hinton's book of the same name, The Outsiders follows the rivalry between two gangs in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1964: the poor Greasers and the rich Socs. The film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, heightens when a gang member accidentally kills a member of the other.
During her chat with Barrymore, Lane also shared a memorable moment from filming the movie: the drive-in cinema scene with Howell, who played Ponyboy Curtis. "I remember when we were at the movie theater and they were creating this windstorm," she recalled. "They had these big huge fans and they were throwing cocoa powder to make the dust so it wouldn’t be toxic or get in our eyes." She added with a laugh, "By the end of the night, we would just be white striping. Like, 'Mmm! That’s good!' We all looked tan and sweet."
