Dierks Bentley and his beloved wife Cassidy have adopted an unconventional yet practical approach to their sleeping arrangements – for a vital reason. During a candid Tuesday, September 2nd, appearance on Bobby Bones' BobbyCast, the seasoned country crooner opened up about his sleep routines with Cassidy, his spouse of nearly two decades.
The 49-year-old artist brought up his routine while touring and how it shifts once he steps back into family life with Cassidy and their trio of children. "When I return from the road, it's top priority," he began, before delving into the sleeping setup that guarantees them a peaceful night's rest. "My wife will often ask, 'How did you sleep last night?' And surprisingly, we don't even share the same room anymore. We've moved past that stage."
"I've pondered this for years," he continued, expounding on how, despite crawling into bed together, they experience vastly different sleep journeys. "I'm thinking about the littlest details...like pillow positioning. I meticulously arrange my three pillows just so. And just as I'm drifting off, suddenly she's out cold," Dierks said, incredulous. "I'm like, 'You've got to be kidding! Already asleep?'"
"Years back, I made a decision to keep our sleep zones separate and bid farewell to our shared bed. Now, I have two platform beds, complete with box springs and mattresses," he added, noting that separate mattresses allow Cassidy to "toss and turn to her heart's content," giving them both the freedom to spread out if needed.
However, Dierks admitted that lately, he's been "like an animal," struggling with his sleep. "It's terrible. She used to take refuge on the couch, but now we have an extra room, so she retreats there instead. Even last night, we agreed, 'Once I'm done with the road, we'll get back on track. We'll reclaim our shared bedroom,'" he said.
The country star concluded by affirming their plan to reunite in their shared sanctuary before the year concludes.
Dierks and Cassidy have been married since 2005, having first met as eighth-graders and been inseparable ever since. "Our story is quite remarkable, full of twists and turns, about being in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time," Dierks shared with The Boot in 2016. "It was during a show in Las Vegas, when I was opening for George Strait, and she stepped onto the bus. I knew right then, that was 'the moment.'"
They eloped in December 2005 and are now the proud parents of daughters Evalyn Day and Jordan Catherine, and son Knox. In 2018, Dierks told PEOPLE that their children are "the greatest character builders" in their marriage. "No good cop, bad cop here," he emphasized. "We're in it together. I believe kids are the ultimate character builders in a marriage."
"They adore traveling and touring. Whenever feasible, we bring them along," Dierks added. "Being a dad feels like my true calling."
Dierks' latest album, Broken Branches, is now available for streaming.
