Why Jennifer Aniston Went to Battle With Studio Execs Over Wig in ‘Horrible Bosses’

When Jennifer Aniston sets her heart on something, even a seemingly insignificant item like a wig, she's prepared to wage a fierce campaign for it. During a recent interview for Vanity Fair's "Rewatch" video series, the Emmy-award-winning actress revealed that she engaged in a tug-of-war with Warner Bros. to sport a brunette wig for her role in the 2011 comedy Horrible Bosses. The studio, it seemed, was partial to her signature blonde locks.

"I went to bat for that wig, let me tell you. It wasn't an easy fight," Aniston recounted. "I wanted [my character] to possess a distinct look. The studio's argument, and I hate to call them out, was, 'We're concerned it won't resemble you.' And I countered, 'That's precisely the intention!' I still think it bore a slight resemblance to me. But I'm glad I stood my ground and fought for it."

In Horrible Bosses, Aniston, a veteran of the beloved sitcom Friends, portrayed Dr. Julia Harris. The R-rated comedy centered around three friends who conspire to bump off their treacherous supervisors, realizing they were obstacles to their happiness. The star-studded cast also included Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, and Kevin Spacey. The ensemble, including Aniston, reprised their roles for the 2014 sequel, Horrible Bosses 2.

Aniston further noted that she "adored" both Horrible Bosses films as they helped her deviate from her "girl next door" stereotype. "I was always perceived as the ingenuous girl next door," explained the actress, who also stars in The Morning Show. "It was a delightful challenge to embody someone so unlike myself. I believe that's what appealed to the director — this character was so unexpected from me. That's what made it all the more thrilling creatively."
