Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri are poised to headline a fresh AppleTV+ romantic comedy titled "Prodigies." Penned and helmed by Sharpe, who garnered acclaim for "The White Lotus" and "A Real Pain," this seven-episode series also boasts Edebiri's ("The Bear") credentials as an executive producer. Hailing from Sister Productions, "Prodigies" delves into the ubiquitous intricacies of enduring relationships through the prism of an exceptionally distinctive couple.
According to the synopsis, "Didi (played by Edebiri) and Ren (portrayed by Sharpe) are former child prodigies who have been inseparable since their youth. Now in their nascent thirties, they begin to ponder if their mundane existence aligns with the extraordinary potential their childhoods promised. Inevitably, the same existential queries seep into their relationship. As their individual aspirations and necessities intertwine and collide with their shared life, the series dissects the romantic narrative's core misconception – that the tale concludes once the protagonists unite. In reality, is that not merely the commencement?"
Sharpe doubles as an executive producer alongside Edebiri, Jane Featherstone ("Black Doves"), Naomi de Pear ("This Is Going to Hurt"), and Katie Carpenter ("Landscapers") for Sister Productions. A release date for "Prodigies" remains forthcoming.
Sharpe, a British sensation, recently starred in Jesse Eisenberg's "A Real Pain," where he served as the tour guide for Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin's characters as they traversed Poland in tribute to their late Jewish grandmother. Culkin garnered an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the Searchlight film.
Edebiri, an award-winning actress, is renowned for her roles in "Bottoms" opposite Rachel Sennott and her stint in the FX series "The Bear" alongside Jeremy Allen White, where she delivered stellar performances.
