In the aftermath of Rob Reiner's passing at the age of 78, Jordan Belfort has shared a heartwarming video that the late filmmaker recorded for his father Maxwell Belfort just before his demise in 2019. On Tuesday, December 16, Belfort, now 63, posted an undated clip on Instagram that he revealed was sent by Reiner to his family prior to his father's passing. The iconic director, known for portraying Maxwell in the 2013 Martin Scorsese-directed film The Wolf of Wall Street, where Leonardo DiCaprio starred as the former stockbroker, said in the video, "Hey, Mr. Belfort. It's Rob Reiner, I played you in the movie. It was a privilege." He continued, "I got to know your son and I know he's with you now and everyone that you love is with you now. And I just wanted to say hi and you gave me a great thrill to be able to play you in the film."

Jordan previously shared on Facebook that his father, whom he affectionately referred to as "Mad Max," had passed away in September 2019. He shared the video on December 16 as a poignant tribute to Reiner two days after he and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were killed on Sunday, December 14. "Rob Reiner sent this to my father on his deathbed," he wrote in the caption of the post. "Truly a class act. RIP."
The couple's son, Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody on December 14 and has been charged with two counts of murder in relation to Rob and Michele's deaths. The Los Angeles Police Department stated in a December 15 press release that Nick was being held without bail. Rob and Michele also shared son Jake and daughter Romy, 28. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy, from his first marriage to Penny Marshall. Rob and Michele had been married since 1989; they met while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally..., which was released that same year.
Reiner's supporting role alongside DiCaprio, 51, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Jon Favreau, and others in The Wolf of Wall Street, a biopic based on Jordan's 2007 memoir of the same name, was a testament to his talent and dedication. As Jordan's Instagram post went viral, numerous celebrities—including Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest, Kathy Bates, Jerry O'Connell, Corey Feldman, Cary Elwes, John Cusack, Mandy Patinkin, and more—paid tribute to Reiner's life and career after his tragic demise.
