The vast expanse of Yellowstone is about to welcome a fresh frontier post—and an expansive new network. CBS has commissioned a spin-off of the highly acclaimed western series, slating it as part of its ambitious 2025-26 lineup. Dubbed creatively as "Y: Marshals" (where the enigmatic "Y" stands for Yellowstone, of course), this exciting venture will feature Luke Grimes reprising his iconic role as Kayce Dutton from the flagship series. Grimes' character joins an elite squad of U.S. Marshals, where he merges his cowboy prowess with his Navy SEAL skills to dispense justice across the Montana plains, as described in the show's captivating logline. Slated for a spring 2026 debut, "Y: Marshals" is one of seven fresh series set to grace CBS' next season.
Spearheading "Marshals" as the showrunner is Spencer Hudnut (of "SEAL Team" fame), who will executive produce alongside Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, Grimes himself, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari. Like its Yellowstone counterparts, this series emerges from the creative crucible of MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
The network's roster of newcomers also boasts dramas like "Boston Blue," "CIA," and "Sheriff Country," all spin-offs of existing or recently concluded CBS hits ("Blue Bloods," "FBI," and "Fire Country," respectively). It also embraces a single-camera comedy titled "DMV," alongside unscripted offerings such as "The Road," "America's Culinary Cup," and "Harlan Coben's Final Twist," a true-crime series hosted by the renowned bestselling author.
CBS has also shuffled some of its seasoned series, relocating "FBI" from Tuesday to Monday nights (where it will be paired with "CIA") and crafting a three-hour "NCIS" block on Tuesdays. This strategic move brings back "NCIS," entering its impressive 23rd season in the fall, to the night that anchored its first 18 seasons. Following suit will be "NCIS: Origins" at 9 PM and "NCIS: Sydney" at 10 PM.
Starring Morena Baccarin, "Sheriff Country" will pave the way for "Fire Country" on Friday nights, while "Boston Blue"—which follows Mark Wahlberg's Danny Reagan to a new urban frontier—will occupy the 10 PM slot that "Blue Bloods" has virtually called home throughout its entire run.
In its schedule announcement on Wednesday, CBS also planted the seeds for the 2026-27 season. Both "FBI" and "Ghosts" have received multi-year renewals, extending their run through 2026-27. The network has also slotted "Einstein," a procedural starring Matthew Gray Gubler, It was originally slated to take place in the coming season, but has now been postponed by a year. Additionally, CBS has opened a writers' room and commissioned 12 scripts for "Cupertino," a legal drama set in Silicon Valley, pitting "David against Goliath," helmed by "Elsbeth" and "Evil" creators Robert and Michelle King.
