The highly anticipated Harlan Coben series, premiering on Netflix on January 1st, aptly adopts the catchy title of John Waite's hit song "Missing You," mirroring its literary counterpart. This choice is hardly a coincidence, as the renowned author himself deemed the title "flawless" for his novel, sharing this insight during a recent trip to London where he unveiled a sneak peek of the screen adaptation. This adaptation promises to incorporate song titles for each of its five episodes.
"That song popped into my mind instantly," Coben revealed to reporters who had the privilege of watching the series' pilot. "Interestingly, John Waite and I even participated in a few joint events when the book was launched."
With a playful twinkle in his eye, Coben added, "Yes, he handled the vocals. When he heard about the show, he flooded my inbox with messages like, 'Here's another rendition I did of the song,' and 'Check out this duet I recorded!'" Recalling his response, Coben chuckled, "I told him, 'It's cool, we've got it!' But honestly, I just felt that song encapsulated the essence perfectly. It was not only an apt title but also carried deep meaning. It was one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind when conceptualizing this story."
When questioned whether music played a pivotal role in her creative process, Victoria Asare-Archer, the screenwriter behind the novel's adaptation, responded, "Music wasn't the primary focus of my writing. However, I've worked on similar thrill-ride, twist-laden series before."
Produced by Quay Street Productions, a division of ITV Studios, this new five-episode limited series follows in the footsteps of Netflix's successful adaptation of Coben's "Fool Me Once." "Missing You" revolves around Kat Donovan, played by "Slow Horses" star Rosalind Eleazar, a detective specializing in missing persons cases. Eleven years ago, her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters), the love of her life, disappeared without a trace. Now, while scrolling through dating app profiles, she spots his face, and her world is poised to unravel once again. This encounter compels her to delve deeper into the mystery surrounding her father's murder (portrayed by Lenny Henry) and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.
The cast of "Missing You" also boasts talents like Richard Armitage, Steve Pemberton, Jessica Plummer, Mary Malone, Lisa Faulkner, and James Nesbitt, among others.
