Netflix's smash hit series "You" drew its official curtain this week, with the streaming giant unleashing the fifth and final season on April 24. This season saw a reprisal of several beloved characters from previous installments, yet one notable absence left fans puzzled. Now, the reason behind this omission has come to light.

In a recent chat with TV Insider, showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo shed some light on the meticulous process of reintegrating past characters into the show's grand finale. "When contemplating the return of these characters, we brainstormed extensively, contemplating how they might perceive Joe and what roles they could play in this final chapter," shared Lo. "As the episodes took shape, ideas like 'Will [Robin Lord Taylor] could help Joe escape the country' emerged."

"We approached each actor individually, inquiring about their interest in reprising their roles. It was incredibly rewarding to see their enthusiasm; they adored the show and cherished their experiences. We're truly proud and grateful for their contributions to this final season," added Lo.

Given the plethora of cameos and guest appearances by actors from prior seasons, fans might have been surprised to notice the absence of Jenna Ortega, who portrayed Ellie in Season 2.

Foley elaborated on this decision, revealing that despite their earnest efforts to bring Ortega back, her hectic filming schedule for another Netflix phenomenon, "Wednesday," made it "logistically impossible." "Ellie was shooting 'Wednesday' in Ireland. We explored every possible way to include her, but ultimately, it just wasn't feasible," Foley lamented.

Thus, Joe's narrative concluded without the heartwarming reunion with Ellie.
