While Young Thug spent the previous year incarcerated, his girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist, kept him abreast of the fiery rivalry that had engulfed the hip-hop world between Drake and Kendrick. Reflecting on Kendrick's mention of him and other Atlanta-based artists, Thug said, "Yeah, Kendrick just dropped some names from Atlanta. I'm not really sure what that was all about."

Kendrick had taken aim at Drake's connections to Atlanta in "Not Like Us," rapping, "21 gave you false street cred/ Thug made you feel like you're slime in your head/ Quavo said you can be from Northside." Mariah had previously revealed to Billboard that she often played the diss tracks for Thug over the phone. "He's a lover of music in general. He gets along with everybody," she said.

Now that he's free, Thugger is back in action, dropping a new single with Future and gearing up for the release of his UY SCUTI album in May.
