Episode 2 of 1899 opens with Larsen trapped in a terrifying vision. He stands before his familial abode, witnessing its inferno, flames devouring every inch, while his beloved wife and three daughters remain trapped within. Later in the episode, it transpires that this is a haunting remnant of Larsen's ghastly past, a nightmare that has plagued him relentlessly. Mercifully, Maura's whispers penetrate the nightmare, urging him to awaken.

However, matters are poised to deteriorate even further. The ship's compasses are in a state of disarray, spinning chaotically, and a distressing communication crackles through the air, its sole message a chilling "Sink Ship." Could this enigmatic child be the key to the tumultuous events unfolding?

Down in the engine room, the workers mutter about whether this child might be a werewolf, but Larsen interrupts, inquiring about the coal from Olek, one of the workers. He seeks to ascertain the remaining quantity, yet his inquiries must remain undisclosed. Larsen's mind is clouded by the strange German chanting, struggling to maintain composure.

1899 – Season 1 Episode 2 1

It is revealed that the sodden man from the previous episode is Daniel Solace. Maura spies him lurking outside her cabin, sensing a familiarity yet unable to place him. "I'm your... neighbor," he whispers, before vanishing down the corridor. Indeed, nothing out of the ordinary.

Inside, the mysterious boy awakens and silently presents Maura with the black pyramid. Meanwhile, Angel prowls and encounters Krester, the Third Class passenger who had sought Maura's assistance in the previous chapter. He surrenders the tobacco box and disappears into the shadows. Kove confronts Krester, reminding him of his promise.

After enduring haunting visions of his family's fate, Eyk Larsen snaps, confronting the boy abruptly, demanding answers about the Prometheus. Maura intervenes, forcing him to relent, but Larsen's mind is a whirlwind. He shouts in the corridor, spilling the beans about the broken telegraph and his visions. Daniel's fleeting appearance is enough to prompt Larsen's departure. Maura follows suit, her distrust of this stranger palpable, yet she casts a knowing glance at the boy, ensconced in the cabin's shadows.

As Mrs. Wilson orchestrates interpersonal turmoil, she labels Ling-Yi, our Cantonese traveler, as a "mysterious little bird" and challenges the French gentleman's steadfastness. Meanwhile, on the deck, Jerome, a mechanic from the engine room, and Clemence, the French newlywed, exchange a foreboding glance, as if they've recognized each other from afar.

Amidst this tumultuous drama, the Captain rallies the passengers to gather on deck. However, on their way, strange clues surface. The carpet on the First Class deck reveals the familiar symbol — a triangle bisected by two lines. Additionally, a vibrant insect captivates a young girl from the third class, drawing her to the deck where Daniel awaits, his tone ominous as he utters, "I'm sorry."

Larsen, determined, makes the bold move to reverse the ship's course, towing the Prometheus back to its origin. The passengers are outraged and vehemently oppose this unprecedented move. "I've made my decision," the Captain declares sternly, before exiting. Even Maura is against this plan, until she lays eyes on the company's message and the perplexing letter pertaining to Eyk's family. Her conviction grows stronger that all of this is interconnected.

As the episode draws to a close, a gruesome discovery is made — a third-class passenger is found murdered. As Larsen examines the scene, we pull out to reveal all the passengers being monitored on screens, seemingly under the watchful gaze of an unseen observer.
